Producer

Founded in 1812, it did not acquire its current name until the late 19th Century. The real modern day success story of this house starts in 1939 when Laurent Perrier was a virtually bankrupt house and was purchased by Marie-Louise Lanson de Nonancourt as an inheritance to secure a future in Champagne for her eldest sons, Maurice and Bernard de Nonancourt, with Bernard taking over in 1949, having survived the war that saw his brother killed ‘Grand’ Bernard as he became known became a huge driving presence for Laurent Perrier and for the Champagne region. Bernard died in late 2010 but this is very much a family owned and run business with his two daughters at the helm. At the forefront of innovation, they were the first house to introduce a multi-vintage prestige cuvée – Grand Siècle – and were at the vanguard of the growth in rosé Champagne, launching their iconic wine in 1968. The wines from Laurent-Perrier are dominated by Chardonnay, giving medium bodied champagnes, with a delightful freshness and a rich toasty finish.

Product Information

In 2004 Laurent-Perrier acquired Château Malakoff along with its prime Chardonnay vineyards in the Côte de Blancs. With increased access to the precious Chardonnay grape, Laurent-Perrier’s Cellar Master, Michel Fauconnet, was inspired to fashion a new expression of the Brut non-vintage. A non-vintage that, as the signature of the House, better conveys the style of lightness, freshness and elegance.
La Cuvée is made from grape juice from the finest part of the pressing and it alone is hand-crafted by LaurentPerrier to create a champagne of extreme delicacy and palate-pleasing freshness.
La Cuvée benefits from extensive ageing in the cellars, greater than Veuve Clicquot and Moet et Chandon.

The Quality of a Laurent-Perrier Champagne comes from….
1. The grape supply QUALITY
2. CHOICES in the pressing phase
3. ONE STYLE : Chardonnay focused
4. Extensive cellar AGEING

Laurent-Perrier has improved the quality of its grape supply, notably through increased ownership of vineyards. More than 100 crus selected by Laurent-Perrier now enter into the composition of La Cuvée.
2,550 litres of grape juice can be pressed from 4,000kg of grapes (the marc). At Laurent-Perrier as well as discarding the taille, the first 225 litres of pressed juice is also discarded as it contains a high proportion of solids that will adversely affect the fermentation.

A broader assortment of grapes coming from a larger supply enables greater selection to obtain the best juice for La Cuvée. This provision allows us to have high quality Chardonnay in sufficient quantity.
While Chardonnay represents only 30% of the vineyards of the appellation, at Laurent-Perrier Chardonnay prevails in all our cuvées(*). An extensive ageing process in the cellars enables us to achieve perfect maturity. The ensuing balance and freshness necessitates only a low dosage.
